What should you expect from poetry?

I create at the cross section of philosophy and poetry. There at the heart of both practices I have found a mirror for my understanding - BUT to spare you from the rest of my poetic dribble, I'll get to the point. I have been contemplating a lot on what makes the drawing (writing) of a word less artistic than the images we draw. Granted we have calligraphy as a type of art for words, but I am interested in having the physical form of the poem do just as much work as the words themselves.
